What a cotton swab actually does
The tip is blunt and wider than the canal is clear. Some wax catches on the cotton and comes out, and that's the part you see. The rest gets pressed ahead of the tip, deeper than it started. - Hard, impacted wax sitting deep against the drum often needs suction. More than one buyer got the front two-thirds of the canal clear and still ended up at an ENT for the rest.
